This movie has lit a fire in me.
I recently watched A Great Awakening, a historical faith-based drama from Sight & Sound Films. The movie tells the story of the unlikely friendship between Reverend George Whitefield and Benjamin Franklin, and how Whitefield’s preaching helped ignite what became known as the First Great Awakening.
The film is directed by Joshua Enck and runs about 2 hours and 9 minutes. It focuses on a time when the American colonies were spiritually, culturally, and politically unsettled, and it shows how God used a bold preacher with a burden for souls to call people back to the gospel.
I had never heard much of the story of George Whitefield before watching this. Since then, I have started reviewing many of his sermons. While I may not agree with every minor doctrinal point, his passion for preaching Christ and seeing souls saved was incredible.
That is what stood out to me most. This was not just history. It was a reminder. A reminder that preaching matters. The gospel matters. The souls of men and women matter. And when God awakens His people, entire generations can be impacted.
This movie is full of history, conviction, and a needed reminder of what can happen when God raises up voices willing to proclaim truth with courage.
I highly recommend watching it.
