Today should be a day in which we are all humbled yet all excited. Nearly 2000 years ago our creator, God, experienced life as man through His son, Jesus. “Without question, this is the great mystery of our faith: Christ was revealed by the Spirit. He was seen by angels and announced to the nations. He was believed in throughout the world and taken to heaven in glory.” 1 Timothy 3:16. God was on a mission for His creation. If you read your bible you will see that in the old testament God promised to destroy death and in the new testament He shows us how He did it.
And that brings us to the true reason for Easter. We celebrate the greatest sacrifice made for mankind. Jesus came to teach us moral law and the way to eternal salvation. And in order to have that eternal salvation He sacrificed himself by allowing man to torture and kill him. He died on the cross to take the punishment of the world. Just before He died he said “it is finished.” The wages for our sins were paid. He then rose again as was foretold. He proved to the people He was indeed Christ and promised to make a place for us when our time on earth was done.
There are many passages in the bible regarding the life and death of Jesus. Some of those passages are in the old testament written centuries before Jesus came. These passages predicted the sacrifice. Psalm 22 provides some great detail of prophecy regarding the crucifixion. The new testament shares the life, teachings and sacrifice of Jesus. A great place to start is the book of John.
For years I did not feel like I had time for God. I did not have time to study His word. I did not fear the consequences of my sins. I did not give much thought to death or what happens after. I assumed…that being a key word for many…that I was good enough for salvation. I made a mistake. The bible clearly explains that only God is good. Even the dictionary defines good as “of moral excellence.” Do you know of anyone that is morally excellent?
For years I celebrated Easter much the same as any holiday…with the focus on me and my family with no real thought of God. I understood that Easter was about the “bible story” but I never took the time to fully understand. I am so thankful that my eyes have been opened and that our God is a forgiving God. Enjoy Easter with your kids. Make your easter eggs, have fun with family over a nice dinner but remember why we celebrate. Our creator loves us…HE LOVES YOU…and He wants us all to live on with him beyond this world of pain and suffering.
I have set my pride and arrogance aside and made God head of my household and CEO of my company. I have accepted His free gift of salvation and am truly humbled by and thankful for His sacrifice. I know that I will experience peace and love that we cannot even know in this world.
Happy Easter and God bless everyone.
