You might’ve heard the recent news: At a recent Harris rally, a young man boldly declared “Jesus is Lord.” Now, if there’s ever been a statement of truth that can stand the test of time, it’s that. But instead of a pause for reflection or even a respectful acknowledgment, Kamala Harris shot back with “You must be at the wrong rally.” And the crowd roared with approval.
Here’s the thing—this isn’t just about one politician brushing off a young man’s declaration of truth. It’s about the deeper danger of following leaders who crown themselves with authority they don’t own and rejecting the One who actually reigns.
The crowd cheering is the real warning sign. We’ve become too comfortable with blind allegiance to earthly leaders—individuals who rise on platforms of empty promises, acting like they hold the key to your life and freedom. But listen—they don’t. No government, no office, no rally gives freedom. That’s God’s job. Our founding fathers, including George Washington himself, knew this truth. He didn’t fight for the power to grant freedom—he fought to protect the God-given freedom already entrusted to us by our Creator.
Romans 13:1 reminds us: “There is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.” Leaders today seem to think they’re the ones calling the shots, that they rise to power by their own ambition. Wrong. God sets leaders in place, and the wise ones govern with fear of the Lord. But these days, far too many are more concerned with applause than reverence.
The crowd cheering Kamala’s dismissive response is what happens when people forget who their true King is. They trade truth for comfort, sell conviction for convenience, and fall in line with leaders who sound good on a stage but offer nothing for eternity. The problem with following these self-proclaimed rulers is that they have no plan for your soul. They’ll lead you wherever the crowd is loudest and the polls are strongest—but they won’t lead you to life.
This is the danger of turning to government or political ideologies instead of the One who made us. God is not impressed with fancy speeches or campaign promises. He’s not waiting to see who wins the next election. He’s already King, and His plan for our lives isn’t based on popularity contests. It’s written in eternity—if we’d only stop and listen.
Leaders who reject the Lordship of Christ aren’t just rejecting truth—they’re rejecting the very foundation of this nation. America was built on biblical principles, on the understanding that our freedoms come from God and not from any man or woman. When leaders like Kamala Harris scoff at the declaration that Jesus is Lord, they aren’t just mocking faith—they’re mocking freedom itself.
If there’s one thing we know from history, it’s this: The moment we start bowing to earthly leaders and forget who our true King is, we lose our way. It happened to Israel when they demanded a king instead of trusting God, and it’s happening again today.
When Israel demanded a king in 1 Samuel 8, it was a pivotal moment in their history—a moment when the people rejected God’s direct leadership in favor of a human ruler. Up until then, Israel was a theocracy, meaning God Himself led them through judges and prophets. But instead of trusting God’s guidance, the people looked at the nations around them—nations ruled by kings—and said, “Give us a king to lead us” (1 Samuel 8:6).
Samuel, the prophet, was heartbroken, and God told him, “It is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king” (1 Samuel 8:7). Israel’s desire for a king was driven by fear, insecurity, and a desire to conform to worldly systems. They wanted someone they could see, someone tangible to rally behind, even though God had proven time and again that He was all they needed.
The problem wasn’t the idea of having a king—it was their rejection of God’s authority. They wanted a leader they could control, someone who fit their image of what leadership should be, instead of continuing to rely on the God who had rescued them from slavery and provided for them every step of the way.
God gave them what they asked for, granting them King Saul. And while Saul started strong, his reign soon revealed the consequences of following human ambition rather than divine direction. Israel found itself suffering under bad leadership, because they placed their hope in a man instead of trusting the One who rules with justice and mercy.
Here’s the truth, plain and simple: Jesus is still Lord, whether Kamala Harris or anyone else likes it or not. The real question isn’t whether you’re at the wrong rally. The question is, are you following the wrong leader?
Listen—Jesus is the only leader worth following. He’s the One who created you, the One who loves you, and the One who has a plan for your life. And His plan isn’t based on fleeting political rallies or applause from the crowd. It’s based on truth, purpose, and eternal life. If you’re tired of the noise, the division, and the lies, stop following the crowd and start following the Cross.
Because at the end of the day, there’s only One King who reigns, and it’s not a politician. It’s Jesus. He’s Lord. Always has been. Always will be.
As this presidential election winds down, it is vitally important to vote policy over personality. You don’t have to like a candidate’s tone or, at times, htheir arrogant demeanor. But as a Christian, you MUST listen to God and vote for His policies—His rules. This election isn’t about choosing someone perfect—it’s about choosing policies that align with God’s truth and principles. Our vote should reflect obedience to God, not personal preference, because what honors Him matters more than how we feel about any candidate.
