Clearing the Confusion
John 8:31–32 says that if we abide in His Word, we become true disciples—and the truth sets us free.
But freedom only comes when we confront the lies we’ve believed.
Here are three common misconceptions… and the truth that exposes them.
1. “The Bible is too complicated to understand.”
Misconception:
Only pastors, scholars, or spiritually elite people can truly understand Scripture.
Truth:
God never designed His Word to be locked behind a wall of confusion. He didn’t write a mystery—He wrote a revelation. The Bible has depth, absolutely, but it’s not unreachable. With the Holy Spirit, Scripture becomes alive, understandable, and applicable to anyone who seeks Him.
2. “I can’t love everyone—especially the ones I arrest.”
Misconception:
Love means feeling warm toward people or agreeing with their choices.
Truth:
Biblical love isn’t a feeling; it’s an action. It shows patience when anger feels easier. It extends mercy when frustration is justified. It hopes for redemption even when someone is at their worst. You don’t have to approve of someone’s behavior to desire God’s best for their soul.
3. “I don’t need church—I take God with me.”
Misconception:
Church is optional if I have a personal relationship with God.
Truth:
Yes, God is everywhere—but He never called us to live an isolated Christian life. He commands us to gather, to build each other up, to share burdens, and to grow together. The Church isn’t about a building; it’s about belonging to a body that strengthens your walk and keeps your faith alive.
