Studying the Word of God each morning has been so enlightening. I am finding so much information regarding truth. It is amazing how much is taken out of context when we share individual verses and read them as we like rather than read the context around that verse.

How important is giving for you? Giving of your belongings, giving of your money, or giving of your time. I know in my small community givers are all around throughout the year. We see it in times of tragedy and struggles and in times of events and promotions. But why do we give?

In the Bible God promises reward for giving. But I believe this concept is taken way out of context to a degree that one may find themselves doubting God when they do not see the actual reward as they expect. There is a common quote (not verse) that states a generous giver will receive tenfold (ten times) what they give. So when you give $10 should you expect a check in the mail for $100?

I know firsthand now that God answers prayers and he does indeed reward good deeds. However, I believe the expected reward is not what we hope for or anticipate. First the true giver, through generosity, starts with a pure intent. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully” ( 2 Corinthians 9:7.) I believe based on the attached verses from the Book of Mathew that we are to give with zero expectation of recognition. To do so is not really giving but a self righteous attempt for praise from others. And sure, it feels good when others recognize and notice you and the recipient still gains from the deed. I believe that God rewards for selfless intent beyond our donation or sacrifice to another through our conscience or soul. Think about this…when you decide in your mind that you want to do something for someone your conscience acknowledges the decision with a warm feeling, a good feeling. Could this be God prodding you with His approval? But now think of when the deed is done. That inner feeling of warmth and goodness increase to what I think we could descibe as ten fold or even more! It feels so much better when you have completed your intent to help another. I believe that is the reward that one should expect. Now that is not to say that I do not believe God has a hand in our own struggles and that He may also reward us with “bonuses.” Maybe by giving away your last ten dollars you find the next day you receive an unexpected gift or bonus that helps you with one of your needs. But do not expect worldly rewards, only embrace them when they are received. The reward you can expect is the inner peace and joy that is magnified when you have fullfilled your giving desire. And realize that your act of giving could actually be God’s answer to that person’s prayers. Thus God truly works through you.

Heavenly Father, thank you for another day of life. Thank you for the inner emotions and feelings you have embedded within our hearts, to not only know good from evil but to also know kindness and forgiveness. May you work through each of us for the other, to bring each of us joy while bringing You joy. May you bless all that walk this journey with me as they read along with my thoughts, studies and love for You. Amen

Most importantly remember that when you follow God’s law to which giving is in there your greatest reward is His gift of salvation. For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God. Ephesians 2:8

I pray you have a blessed day. Please keep the Silva Family in your prayers as they prepare to lay their son to rest this week. Through my daughter this family is weaved into my life and I truly hurt for their loss. Also, my mother informed me of a family member who is awaiting test results to see if a spot has cancer. I will not name her for privacy but God will know as we pray for positive results and/or His healing grace.
