There comes a time in life when the weight of the world feels too heavy to bear. We’ve all been there, haven’t we? Decisions we’ve made that we can’t undo, relationships broken, careers stalled, and perhaps most painful of all—those moments when the opinions of others seem to crowd our minds. It’s easy to find ourselves in a spiral, asking, “How did I end up here?”
But there’s a greater truth that we must grasp: we were never meant to carry these burdens alone. At the heart of our Christian faith is the assurance that God walks with us in every valley and storm. His Word reminds us, over and over, that we can and should turn to Him in every circumstance. Our God is not distant; He is right there, ready to lead us out of the turmoil—if only we give it to Him.
So many of us wrestle with regrets—decisions made in moments of weakness, paths we wish we hadn’t taken. It’s part of the human condition to reflect on the past, but when we dwell on it too long, we risk being paralyzed by it. That’s the devil’s playground, my friends. He wants nothing more than for you to believe that your past defines you.
But listen to what God says in Isaiah 43:18-19: “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” God isn’t concerned with where you’ve been—He’s focused on where you’re going. Our past does not dictate our future, but our trust in God can shape what comes next. When we find ourselves staring at a mess of our own making, the only response that brings peace is to turn to God and say, “I can’t do this alone.”
That realization—that we can’t do it on our own—is the beginning of surrender. It’s the moment we come to the end of ourselves and admit that we need help. It’s humbling to let go of our need to control everything, but true freedom comes in giving it all to God. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
There is so much beauty in that promise. The same God who created the universe, the same God who knit you together in your mother’s womb, has a plan for your life. He knows every twist and turn you will face. The turmoil, the confusion, the worry—they don’t surprise Him. He sees it all, and He has already made a way through it. The only thing He asks of us is to trust Him, to place our lives in His hands, and to let Him lead.
But how often do we hold on to our problems as if we are the only ones who can fix them? We play out scenarios in our heads, trying to figure out how we can undo what’s already been done. We carry the weight of our mistakes, believing we have to be the ones to make it right. And yet, the longer we hold on, the heavier that burden becomes. It wears us down spiritually, emotionally, and physically.
The Bible doesn’t just tell us that God will lead us through the turmoil—it gives us practical steps to follow. One of those is found in Matthew 11:28-30, where Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
What a beautiful invitation. When we are weary from trying to handle everything ourselves, Jesus offers us rest. He doesn’t promise that we will never face difficulties, but He does promise that we don’t have to face them alone. He invites us to exchange our heavy burdens for His light one. And that’s the key to finding peace in the midst of turmoil—realizing that we don’t have to carry the weight of the world on our shoulders. Jesus has already done that for us.
Still, many of us struggle with letting go. It’s hard to relinquish control, especially when we don’t know what the future holds. But that’s where faith comes in. Faith isn’t just believing in God’s existence—it’s trusting that He is good, that He loves us, and that He will guide us through whatever comes our way. It’s trusting that even when we don’t see the way out, He does.
Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” The path may be dark, and the journey may be uncertain, but God’s Word will always be the light that shows us the way forward. When we feel lost or confused, the Bible offers the guidance we need. It’s not just a collection of stories or ancient traditions—it’s a living, breathing guide for our lives. In its pages, we find the wisdom, comfort, and direction we need to navigate even the toughest seasons.
And when the opinions of others start to weigh on us, when we feel the pressure to measure up to someone else’s standards, we need to remember this truth: We are not defined by what others think of us. We are defined by what God says about us. And what does He say? He says that we are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). He says that we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works (Ephesians 2:10). He says that we are loved with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3).
The world may try to tell you otherwise, but God’s Word is the final authority. We don’t need to strive for approval from others when we already have the approval of our Creator. And if He loves us, if He is for us, then who can be against us (Romans 8:31)?
At the end of the day, the choice is ours. We can continue to carry the weight of our past, the opinions of others, and the worries of tomorrow—or we can give it all to God. We can trust that He is more than capable of guiding us through the storms of life. We can rest in the assurance that He has a plan, and that plan is good.
In 1 Peter 5:7, we are reminded to “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” Isn’t that a comforting thought? The God of the universe cares about your worries. He sees the tears you cry in the dark. He knows the burdens you carry, and He invites you to lay them at His feet.
So today, whatever turmoil you’re facing, whatever burdens you’re carrying, I encourage you to give it to God. He is faithful. He is able. And He loves you more than you could ever imagine. Trust Him with your past, your present, and your future. Let Him be the light that leads you out of the darkness and into His perfect peace.
