Are you a good person?
Definition of good-the dictionary says that which is morally right; righteousness.
Answer these honestly…
1. Have you ever told a lie?
2. Have you ever stolen something?
3. Have you ever looked at someone with lust?
4. Have you ever take the Lord’s name in vain (used His name as a cuss word?)
You, like all of us, if answering honestly would say yes to each of these. Thus making us liars, thieves, adulterers and blasphemers. These are just four of the ten commandments. So if we are to be judged by these moral laws would you be innocent or guilty? Guilty of course…we all are. So would you go to heaven or hell? The answer is obvious. If you went to court for murder and the judge was ready to impose your sentence and you spoke up and asked the judge to take into comsideration all of the good you have done in your life he would not care. The punishment for the crime would remain the same. And this should frighten you!
But there is good news. Death can be described as wages. The wages for our sin is death. But God sent Jesus to pay the fine for our sins. Much the same as if you were in court with a stack of speeding tickets and someone else came along and paid the fines for you. The judge can let you go because that is legal, just and right. The fines are paid. Jesus was sent to pay the fine and in His final moments He stated from the cross “It is finished”. Jesus was stating that the fine was paid so that you could avoid the death penalty and have everlasting life.
Do you know how easy it is to receive that gift of everlasting life? This is a great example. If you were on an airplane and you were about to crash and you seen a parachute under the seat what would you do? Of course, you would put it on. But why? Yep, to save your life. The Bible says to put on the Lord Jesus Christ. To receive the gift of salvation you must repent (turn away from your sins) and put your faith in Jesus. Then you will pass from death to everlasting life.
Remember this statement…your body does not have a soul, your soul has a body. We are all a soul living a short life within a physical body that will eventually die. But your soul (you) can have everlasting life.
I urge you to watch some of Ray Comfort’s videos as he speaks to people from all walks of life. He takes a huge scenario (truly a life and death situation) and explains it in these simple terms and all based on scripture without changing, manipulating or interpreting the words of Jesus. He does not judge anyone, he does not mock anyone. He simply provides the knowledge that is freely available to everyone. And a knowledge that I believe pokes at our conscience every day.
