People, we’ve got to wake up. It seems everyone’s talking, but hardly anyone’s listening. We live in a world drowning in narratives, agendas, and opinions. We’ve got celebrities, politicians, influencers, and talking heads all telling us what to think, what to feel, and what’s right or wrong. But the truth—the real, unchanging truth—is right in front of us, and we’ve ignored it for too long. God has laid out a perfect blueprint in His Word. He gave us the Ten Commandments, not as a list of suggestions but as a way to live a righteous, fulfilled life. Yet here we are, tangled up in lies, division, and rebellion.
Now, I don’t need to tell you the media is biased. Many of you know it already. But do we ever stop and ask ourselves what that bias does to us? The issue isn’t just about which stories get told or which facts get twisted. It’s about a culture where truth has lost its meaning, where opinions are passed off as facts, and where voices that used to inform us are more concerned with pushing agendas than with telling the truth. When over 95% of media coverage is negative about a person or issue, yet that person wins both the electoral and popular vote, that should tell us something loud and clear. People are waking up and seeing through the lies. They’re realizing that maybe, just maybe, God’s Word has had it right all along.
The Bible doesn’t change based on who’s in office or what’s trending on social media. The Ten Commandments don’t shift based on the latest poll or cultural fad. They’re just as relevant today as they were when Moses carried them down from the mountain. These aren’t arbitrary rules; they’re God’s protective guardrails, meant to keep us from driving ourselves off a cliff. But somewhere along the way, we decided we knew better. We let media, culture, and popular opinion tell us what to think and feel, ignoring the only voice that truly matters: God’s.
Let’s start with the First Commandment: “You shall have no other gods before Me.” This isn’t just about golden statues or pagan idols. It’s about anything we prioritize above God. Fame, money, influence, political agendas, media narratives—these have all become idols. We trust headlines over the Word of God. We cling to human philosophies, ignoring God’s wisdom, as if it’s outdated. But look around: division, anger, confusion. This is what happens when we put our faith in man rather than the One who created us.
And we’re not just talking about faceless media outlets. The celebrities, the influencers, the “icons” of this age—they are shaping minds, guiding opinions, and encouraging behaviors that go against everything God has taught us. When did we become so enamored with these people? When did we start hanging on their every word as though they held the key to truth? These are people with their own flaws, their own agendas, and in many cases, their own rebellion against God. Yet we give them our attention, our time, our money, and for what? So they can keep steering us away from God’s truth? So they can keep us distracted from what really matters?
God’s commandments are a perfect standard, and every one of them addresses issues we’re facing today. “You shall not bear false witness” speaks directly to this culture of misinformation. Lies have not only become accepted but expected in so many areas of life. We’re bombarded with half-truths, spun stories, and biased reports. God warns us about the dangers of falsehood, but we continue letting these voices shape our view of reality. If we embraced even this one commandment, can you imagine the difference? Integrity would matter. Truth would be sought after rather than manipulated for power or profit.
Then there’s “You shall not covet.” Our entire media ecosystem thrives on making us want what we don’t have. We’re constantly encouraged to compare ourselves to others or to feel like we’re missing out if we don’t have what the celebrities and influencers have. It’s a culture of dissatisfaction. They show us the lifestyles of the rich and famous, subtly suggesting that we’re somehow “less than” if we don’t measure up. But God warns us that this path leads to emptiness. He calls us to find joy in His blessings rather than in what the world tells us we need.
Friends, it’s time we stop giving our attention to people who don’t value truth. It’s time to quit hanging on the words of those who don’t follow God’s principles. The Bible tells us that “bad company corrupts good character” (1 Corinthians 15:33). That’s not just about the people we know in our personal lives; it’s about the voices we allow to influence us, whether they’re on our screens, our phones, or in the pages of magazines. We can’t continue allowing ourselves to be led by voices that don’t value what God values.
We’ve got to start taking God’s Word seriously again, folks. God isn’t just a Sunday sermon. He’s sovereign over all creation, and His commandments are His way of showing us how to live a life that’s aligned with His truth. When we ignore His commandments, we ignore the foundation of truth. It’s no wonder the world is in the shape it’s in. We’ve traded the unshakable truth of God’s Word for the shifting sands of popular opinion. And when the storms come, and they always do, people are left scrambling, searching for something real, something solid. But God’s truth has been there all along.
The media will tell you to follow “your own truth,” to do what feels right for you. But friends, that’s a dangerous path. Our hearts are prone to wander, to deceive. Jeremiah 17:9 tells us, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked.” Following our own hearts leads to destruction, but following God’s commandments leads to life. We weren’t meant to follow celebrities or media trends; we were meant to follow God.
The Ten Commandments might seem like an outdated list to some people, but take a look at what they represent. They’re the foundation of a moral society, the bedrock of justice, kindness, respect, and faithfulness. When we follow them, we honor God and bless others. When we ignore them, we choose chaos. The world doesn’t need more opinions or commentary; it needs truth—the kind of truth that doesn’t change with the times or the whims of popular opinion.
Let’s remember that our loyalty, our attention, and our respect should go to God alone. No celebrity, no media outlet, and no influencer can offer us what God offers us. They can’t give us peace, truth, or salvation. They can’t fill the void that only God can fill. So let’s stop looking to them as though they have something we need, and let’s turn back to the One who has everything we need. God’s Word is enough. His commandments are enough. They’ve guided people for thousands of years, and they’re not about to stop being relevant now.
Turn off the noise. Shut down the lies. Get back into the Bible and see what God has to say. You’ll find a truth that doesn’t depend on human opinions or passing trends. You’ll find the only truth that matters, the only truth that can set you free. It’s time we stop giving our attention to people who don’t have our best interests at heart and start listening to the One who loves us, who made us, and who wants us to live in peace and righteousness. God’s Word is clear, His guidance is solid, and it’s time we start listening again.
