Thankful for a Giving Community

I’ve been thinking a lot about how blessed we are to belong to a church family that truly gives from the heart. Every week I watch people serve, pray, encourage, and support the work God is doing here—not because anyone twists their arm, but because generosity is part of who they are. It’s a beautiful thing when a community chooses to invest in the Kingdom together. Before we get into anything else, I want to say how grateful I am for the giving spirit God has placed within Northern Light Church. It’s because of that spirit that ministry happens, needs are met, and lives are changed.

Many see tithing as a loss, but the truth is that giving to God is an act of faith and worship. Tithing is not about money — it’s about the heart. It reflects our trust in God’s provision and our love for His kingdom. And honestly, let’s just drop the word “tithing.” It’s a term loaded with legalism. Let’s call it what Jesus called it — supporting the Kingdom through generous giving.

Before anything else, let’s be clear about what not to give for:

  • Don’t give because a pastor claims you won’t be blessed if you don’t. He does not have that authority.
  • Don’t give because someone says it’s “the law.” Jesus didn’t rise from the grave to tax His people.
  • Don’t give because you were told you have to give in order to get. That’s manipulation, not ministry.
  • Don’t give out of pressure, fear, guilt, or spiritual intimidation. God is not honored by bullied generosity.

When we give, it must be worship — not coercion.

❤️ I. I Give Because I Love God
• True giving begins with love, not obligation.
• John 14:15 says, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
• Giving is a response to His love, not a religious duty.
• Generosity honors the Giver of all blessings.

❤️ II. I Give Because I Trust His Provision
• Giving declares that God is my source, not my job or income.
• Malachi 3:10 says, “Prove me now herewith… if I will not open you the windows of heaven.”
• When I give, I release my fear and receive God’s favor.
• Faith grows when I trust Him with my first and best.

❤️ III. I Give Because It Supports God’s Work
• Generous giving keeps the storehouse full and the ministry strong.
• Nehemiah 10:37–39 shows God’s people bringing offerings to sustain the temple.
• My giving helps spread the Gospel and care for others.
• It connects me to God’s mission on earth.

❤️ IV. I Give Because It Invites God’s Blessing
• God multiplies what we surrender to Him.
• Luke 6:38 says, “Give, and it shall be given unto you…”
• Generosity unlocks spiritual and material blessings.
• When I give, I’m not losing — I’m sowing.

❤️ V. I Give Because It Reminds Me I’m a Steward, Not an Owner
• Everything I have belongs to God.
• Psalm 24:1 says, “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof.”
• Giving keeps my heart humble and grateful.
• It shifts my focus from possessions to purpose.

Generous giving is not about what God wants from me but what He wants for me.
It strengthens my faith, supports His work, and opens the door for His blessings.
When I give, I’m telling God, “You are my Provider, and I trust You completely.”

“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” — Matthew 6:21

And Northern Light Church is blessed by the giving people who continue to support the ministry, keep the lights on, and provide a place for the community to find hope, peace, and love.
