The Spiritual Battle Over Life

Throughout human history, the sanctity of life has always been central to God’s plan for His creation. Scripture consistently teaches that life, from its very beginning, is precious in the eyes of God. Yet today, we live in a culture that increasingly devalues the very thing that God cherishes most—human life. Abortion is not merely a political issue or a personal choice; it is part of a larger, more sinister spiritual battle between good and evil, light and darkness, life and death.

The Bible leaves no doubt about God’s involvement in the formation of life. In Psalm 139:13-16, David writes, “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there were none of them.” These verses affirm that God’s hand is on us from conception. Every human life is known, valued, and planned by God before even a single day has passed. Abortion, then, is an assault on this divine process of life creation.

The tragedy of abortion is not just the loss of physical life but the defiance it represents against God’s sovereignty. In the Old Testament, we see God’s abhorrence of child sacrifice, particularly in the worship of the pagan god Molech. Leviticus 18:21 explicitly condemns this practice, stating, “You shall not give any of your children to offer them to Molech, and so profane the name of your God: I am the Lord.” The spiritual connection between abortion and ancient forms of child sacrifice is undeniable. Today’s culture may not bow to a statue of Molech, but the sacrifice of innocent lives continues under the guise of convenience, autonomy, and choice.

What makes this even more grievous is the fact that Satan, the great deceiver, continues his relentless assault on God’s creation. In John 8:44, Jesus describes Satan as “a murderer from the beginning” and “the father of lies.” Satan cannot create life—his mission is to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). When he targets the unborn, he strikes at the very heart of God’s creative work, knowing that life is precious to the Father. It’s no wonder that abortion causes such chaos in the world, not just socially but spiritually. Every life taken is a victory in Satan’s eyes, a direct wound to the heart of God.

It’s crucial to recognize the spiritual deception surrounding abortion. One of the most common arguments in favor of abortion is the assertion of bodily autonomy: “This is my body.” Isn’t it striking that these very words echo what Jesus said at the Last Supper? “This is my body, which is given for you” (Luke 22:19). But the meaning in the context of abortion is perverted. Where Jesus offers His body in sacrificial love to bring life, the culture of abortion twists that phrase into a selfish declaration, justifying the taking of life.

Abortion’s mantra is, “You must die so I can live.” It places the desires, convenience, and autonomy of one individual above the life of another. This is a stark contrast to the message of Christ, who said, “I must die so you can live.” Christ, the giver of life, entered the world through the womb of a woman. His incarnation—His choice to become human—highlights the value and sacredness of life in all its stages. Philippians 2:6-7 speaks of how Jesus, “though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.” Christ did not consider His own rights but humbled Himself to give life to others.

In contrast, abortion champions the idea of putting one’s desires first. The irony and spiritual perversion is clear: abortion uses the same words Jesus spoke about His own sacrifice for life but in reverse meaning. Satan, who seeks to twist and corrupt all things of God, knows this. Abortion is more than just a physical act; it is, at its core, a spiritual rebellion against the Creator. It declares that human autonomy is greater than God’s authority, and it is this prideful mindset that leads to chaos and destruction.

And it doesn’t stop at abortion. Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the world, is also one of the most prominent providers of transgender drugs and surgeries. Once again, Satan targets God’s design—this time through gender confusion and mutilation. Just as abortion mutilates and ends life in the womb, these surgeries and drugs seek to destroy God’s image in those outside the womb. Romans 1:25 says, “They exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.” The culture defends these practices under the guise of healthcare, but the Bible makes it clear that this is part of the larger spiritual deception, exchanging God’s truth for a man-made lie.

But here’s the good news: Christ has already won the victory. Colossians 2:15 tells us that through His death and resurrection, “He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in Him.” Satan may continue to deceive and destroy, but his power is limited. He is a defeated foe. Though he rages against the image of God in every human life, we are reminded that Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross was sufficient to redeem all. Every unborn child, every person struggling with identity, every individual lost in darkness—there is hope and redemption available through Christ.

In light of this, we as Christians must rise up and stand for life. Proverbs 31:8 calls us to, “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.” The unborn are the most vulnerable among us, and we are called to be their voice. We must not be silent in the face of such evil, but instead, proclaim the truth of God’s Word—that every life is fearfully and wonderfully made and that Christ came so that all might have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10).

Let us continue to pray for our nation, for the hearts of those involved in the abortion industry, and for the women who feel they have no other choice. Let us show them the love and grace of Christ, pointing them to the One who gave His body so that we all might live.
