There are so many things happening in life that can easily provoke anger and resentment. It is such an easy emotion to give into and a very difficult emotion to set aside. And the crazy part is that the anger does nothing to remedy, nothing to calm, nothing to bring peace to yourself. It solves nothing.

“Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Ephesians 4:31-32

Last night I watched a television interview of a man who lost his daughter to a hit and run accident. You could see and hear the pain the man experienced and continued to struggle with yet after finding the person that killed his daughter he was able to lean on his faith and forgive the man. I have to be honest I do not know if I could be that strong though I understand the need to forgive. Today the man is blessed with a supportive wife and has had opportunities to share his story and his faith which has influenced others in the same positive way. I was upset with some nonsense yesterday but as I watched that interview last night all I could think was if that man could forgive after such a difficult tragic loss then surely God has given me the strength and ability to forgive over petty aggressions.

God has blessed us with the gift of life. I know that sometimes it can feel like a curse. Life can be confusing, difficult and full of trials and tribulations. But He has promised that He will be by our side until He calls us home and that home is without pain and sorrow.

“Behold, the dwelling of God is with men. He will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself will be with them;

he will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:3-4

Because He commands forgiveness and because I repent from my anger and negativity I can begin today anew with a positive approach. And by this attitude I know that God will bless my efforts and calm my heart.

Lord God thank you for this new day. Another opportunity to turn from my anger and discouragement and to turn toward your righteousness. May the love that you created us with sweep through our hearts and influence each of us to do better for one another. I admit I am weak and struggle to refrain from the emotions of anger and hate but I know through your grace I can do so. Amen
