For years I felt fortunate to still have my dad as I would see memes that said things like “to all those Dad’s in heaven.” I couldn’t even fathom what that loss felt like. I just knew my dad was a phone call away or a short drive down the road. But as is the experience we all eventually go through he was here one second then gone the next. Death is one of those circumstances that we have absolutely no control over. It happens and it happens whether we are ready or not.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 – And the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

Fortunately, the missing piece to the puzzle for me was understanding life and death as explained through scripture. To recognize the wholeness of who we are, body and soul and to realize that death does not mean the end but rather the next chapter of our journey.

This Father’s Day I lift my hands to our Father, our Creator. I praise him for the time he blessed me with my dad. I do not understand why he was taken early (by my standards) but I am grateful that I had him as long as I did.

This whole world is broken and just seems to be on a rapid decline. And we spend so much time trying to achieve success and satisfaction and often times miss out on the important things of love and human connection. I know I am guilty of this. So much so that I struggle with emotional connection. God created us to love yet we are so good at hate. Why do we let evil prevail? Why don’t we recognize that all the things we argue about and criticize each other about will mean nothing the moment our heart stops beating.

Anyhow, my thoughts are rather scattered today. Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there.
